Aston Villa interested in AC Milan striker Piatek

Krzysztof Piatek is the latest name to be linked with a January move to Aston Villa.

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Shira, Dean Smith is considering the Polish forward as he looks to add goals to his squad.

Shira believes that Piatek could be moved on this month following the eye-catching return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Following Wesley’s long-term injury, Villa have been left short of options in the final third as they fight bravely against relegation.

It’s easy to see how this deal could work both for and against Villa.

Piatek is expected to fall out of favour following the return of Ibrahimovic, who looks set to take his place in the starting XI at the San Siro.

However, a recent report from AS, as cited on the Daily Mail, claims that Piatek doesn’t want to take a step down in terms of club stature if he is to leave Milan this month.

If Piatek, who has struggled for goals this season, were to make the move, you would have to question his mentality with Villa battling to stay afloat in the Premier League.

As per WhoScored, Piatek has only scored four times in 18 league appearances this season and following his rapid rise in Italy, a ‘step down’ could be just what he needs to rediscover his goalscoring form.

For an out-of-form striker, it’s interesting to see that 2.8 of the 3.6 shots Piatek is taking per 90 minutes this season have all come from inside the box, via WhoScored. This would suggest that he’s still getting himself into good scoring opportunities but the final finish is lacking – a fresh start could help him rediscover that golden touch.
