Villa linked with move to bring Nzonzi back to England

Aston Villa are reportedly keen to bring Steven Nzonzi back to the Premier League this month, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror say that the 2018 World Cup-winning midfielder is ready to cut his loan spell at Galatasaray short following a training ground bust-up, with Villa said to be in the market for experienced signings this month.

According to the report, the player himself is also open to a return to England after spells in Spain, Italy and Turkey.

At the age of 31, Nzonzi certainly matches the profile of player that Villa are looking for; experienced and ready for the Premier League. As per transfermarkt, Nzonzi racked up nearly 200 appearances in the English top-flight during his time with Blackburn and Stoke.

After leaving Stoke, Nzonzi went on to impress during his time at Sevilla, where his performances attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Estadio Deportivo claimed that Tottenham and Barcelona were once interested, while Football Whispers labelled Nzonzi as the ‘the midfield option Guardiola needs’ at Manchester City back in 2018.

It’s a shame to see that Nzonzi hasn’t been able to kick on since an impressive spell at Sevilla, but this could be a great opportunity for Villa to bring in a talented and experienced head in midfield – something that could make a huge difference to their relegation battle.

With Nzonzi also seemingly ready to move on from Turkey, the timing of this deal could make it one that works for both parties this month.

matchday.
