# Tottenham fans react to club’s opening 2018 Jack Grealish offer

Tottenham were heavily [linked](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-jack-grealish-contract-deadline-day-aston-villa-epl-premier-league-a8484376.html) with a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish back in 2018.

And after the club’s opening offer for the playmaker resurfaced, many Spurs fans have shared their embarrassment on social media.

[The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-jack-grealish-contract-deadline-day-aston-villa-epl-premier-league-a8484376.html) reported back in August 2018 that Tottenham’s initial offer was a £3 million fee plus midfielder Josh Onomah, which was quickly turned down.

The [report](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-jack-grealish-contract-deadline-day-aston-villa-epl-premier-league-a8484376.html) claims Spurs did get close to the £25 million asking price, but as we all know, the boyhood Villa fan remained at Villa Park, helping them to promotion less than 12 months later.

[@RickySpur](https://twitter.com/RickSpur/status/1219364612233187329) shared the [Independent’s](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-jack-grealish-contract-deadline-day-aston-villa-epl-premier-league-a8484376.html) story on social media on Monday, and it didn’t take long for these Tottenham fans to share their anger at the offer.

### Read Aston Villa verdict

Grealish scored [three goals and provided six assists in 22 Championship starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/113069/History/Jack-Grealish) during the 2017/18 season, so in our eyes, that £3 million fee for a promising 22-year-old was ridiculous from Spurs.

Looking back now makes it even worse in our opinion. Now 24, Grealish has already been involved in [12 Premier League goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/113069/History/Jack-Grealish) under Dean Smith this season and looks set to play a crucial role in Villa’s attempts to avoid the drop.

[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-grealish/profil/spieler/203460) currently value Grealish at £31.5 million, but to us, we think that should be even higher.

He’s under [contract until 2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-grealish/profil/spieler/203460) and we feel he still has a few years left to improve before reaching his prime, so in today’s market, should be pushing the £40 million barrier with ease.

It would’ve been a catastrophe if Villa parted ways with Grealish 18 months ago, and it’s good to see several Tottenham fans hitting out at the club’s initial 2018 bid for the midfielder.
