# Man City fans react to Laporte’s injury ahead of Villa clash

Many Manchester City fans are distraught after centre-back Aymeric Laporte suffered an injury on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman was [forced off](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51634157) during City’s UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg encounter with Real Madrid and looks unlikely to be fit in time for this Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa.

The defender has had a disastrous season in terms of injurires, missing a large chunk of the campaign after [damaging his knee ligaments](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49537998) against Brighton and Hove Albion in August.

Five months later, Laporte [returned to action for City](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2020/january/sheffield-united-man-city-team-news-and-tactics), starting in their 1-0 away victory over Sheffield United in January.

City boss Pep Guardiola [confirmed the setback](https://www.mancity.com/citytv/mens/pep-guardiola-real-madrid-live-63718351) following his side’s 2-1 victory in Spain and we could now see either Fernandinho or John Stones to continue filling in for the injured defender.

He is a crucial member of the team, proven by the fact that City have not lost any of the [matches he has featured in this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aymeric-laporte/leistungsdaten/spieler/176553).

These City fans on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/ManCity/status/1232765761317457921) were clearly upset by the concerning news.
