Aston Villa fans look back at significant win in promotion-winning season

Aston Villa are struggling in the Premier League now but that is perhaps no surprise as they are a newly-promoted club.

Dean Smith’s side secured their return back to the top-flight after beating Derby County at Wembley in the play-off final last season.

However, just reaching the top six was an achievement as Smith had inherited an inconsistent side in mid-table when he arrived and Villa had to deal with the huge expectancy that comes with pulling on the claret and blue, particularly in the Championship.

A fine run towards the end of the season put Villa in contention of finishing in the top six and perhaps a defining win came against Sheffield Wednesday – which was a year ago yesterday.

Stoppage time goals from Albert Adomah and Tammy Abraham sealed an invaluable 3-1 win and gave Villa an advantage over the chasing pack that they wouldn’t relinquish.

So, when the club shared the goals on Twitter, it brought plenty of responses from the fans who enjoyed looking back at a memorable recent away day.

Here we look at some of the comments…
