# Aston Villa fans react as Douglas Luiz receives Brazil call-up

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to news of [Douglas Luiz](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/02/25/journalist-criticises-douglas-luiz-after-laboured-villa-display/)‘s call-up to the Brazil national team.

The Villa Park ace [arrived in the Midlands in summer 2019](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2019/07/25/douglas-luiz-arrives) and made an instant impact for Dean Smith’s side, helping them remain in England’s top flight after a dogged fight against relegation last term.

A [regular feature for the team in 2019/20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/447661/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/405), the [£24.3m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/profil/spieler/447661) 22-year-old earned himself a respectable average match rating of 6.63 out of 10 via [WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/337883/History/Douglas-Luiz) for his performances, whilst also gaining many plaudits from pundits.

Villa journalist Gregg Evans once said: “He looks like an absolute star”, via [The Athletic’s 1874 Podcast](https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir-qm2hk-96fd506?utm_campaign=w_share_ep&utm_medium=dlink&utm_source=w_share), and those comments have been backed up by Luiz’s inclusion for Brazil over the last year.

Another call-up ahead of the latest international break for his country has prompted surprise’ among some Villa fan, although many were naturally thrilled for him.

Responding to his call up, which was shared by Villa’s official Twitter account, these fans gave their reaction to the news:

> Very pleased for Douglas but in the the back of my mind there's a voice saying "that's one more tick on his Man City work permit application in 2021" [#justsaying](https://twitter.com/hashtag/justsaying?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [https://t.co/AtA34ITRxn](https://t.co/AtA34ITRxn)
