# Fans react as Douglas Luiz offers Aston Villa prediction

Aston Villa midfielder [Douglas Luiz](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/02/25/journalist-criticises-douglas-luiz-after-laboured-villa-display/) has backed himself and his teammates to have a good season in an interview with [the club’s official website.](https://video.avfc.co.uk/video/dm9kJTdDMF85YnNibGJ6NiU3QyUyRnNlY3Rpb24lM0ZzbHVnJTNEaG9tZSU3Q2hvbWUlMkZoZXJvX2Nhcm91c2Vs?lang=en)

The Brazilian has been quite a revelation at Villa Park since his [arrival](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2019/07/25/douglas-luiz-arrives) from Premier League rivals Manchester City last summer.

Performing at a high standard for Dean Smith’s side, Luiz has somewhat solidified his place in the centre of midfield, making [49 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/447661) already for the Villans.

Featuring in all six of Villa’s league games so far this season, the former Man City midfielder has been discussing his side’s capabilities after winning the opening four games of the season, which included a 7-2 thrashing of champions Liverpool.

Villa’s official Twitter channel shared one comment in particular from the 22-year-old:

> Twitter: “I think we have what it takes to have a great season.” ![👊](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.0.0/svg/1f44a.svg)

That premonition has prompted a disparity of responses from a portion of Villa fans on Twitter, with one of his admirers championing him as a “baller”:

> Maybe if our other midfielders looked after the ball then we would

> Does anyone else think that we bypass the midfield too quickly? McGinn, Luiz, Barkley, Grealish, Trez should be able to retain possession, and that is what was needed to take the sting out of Leeds and Southampton when we fell behind…[#AVFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/AVFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#UTV](https://twitter.com/hashtag/UTV?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#partofthepride](https://twitter.com/hashtag/partofthepride?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
