# Dean Smith gives update on Keinan Davis as he targets return for Wolves

[Keinan Davis](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/02/21/smith-confirms-davis-to-return-to-training-on-monday/) could make his return from injury when Aston Villa travel to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 12, according to [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-injury-news-barkley-19384774).

The 22-year-old has been [out of action with an ankle injury](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-injury-news-barkley-19384774) since mid-November, causing him to miss Villa’s last two Premier League outings, but he’s expected back in training over the weekend.

Dean Smith [said](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-injury-news-barkley-19384774) about the youngster: “We’re hoping Keinan Davis is on the training pitch on Sunday.” Davis has a lot to prove upon his return as he’s been short playing time this season.

The 22-year-old has made only [four appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/keinan-davis/leistungsdaten/spieler/412660) in all competitions in 2020/21, scoring one goal and supplying one assist. Davis has spent most of the campaign as an unused substitute, so he’ll be desperate to turn his situation around.

### READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT

With only five goals and six assists from [75 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/keinan-davis/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/412660) at Villa, it’s no surprise the former England under-20 international finds himself behind Ollie Watkins ([12 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ollie-watkins/profil/spieler/324358), eight goals, one assist) in the [pecking order](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/ausfallzeiten/verein/405), but he’s not been given many opportunities to change his manager’s mind.

Davis’ last Premier League appearance came all the way back in September’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United and his last outing in any competition was October’s Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke City (as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/keinan-davis/leistungsdaten/spieler/412660)), so there could be question marks over his long-term future at Villa Park if he doesn’t feature soon.
