# Aston Villa exit hasn’t gone to plan for Mbwana Samatta

[Mbwana Samatta](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/09/25/mbwana-samatta-joins-fenerbahce-on-loan/) missed Fenerbahce’s 2-0 win over Denizlispor on Sunday afternoon due to [injury](https://www.fenerbahce.org/haberler/futbol/2020/11/teknik-direktorumuz-erol-bulut-basin-mensuplarina-aciklamalarda-bulundu) and isn’t having the best stint in Turkey overall.

The 27-year-old joined the Istanbul club on a [season-long loan](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54273096) in September and has been short of form and fitness, which may raise doubt over whether his buying option will be triggered.

Samatta has made [eight appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mbwana-samatta/leistungsdaten/spieler/182201) in all competitions under Erol Bulut, scoring two goals. He bagged a brace in Fener’s 2-1 win over Karagümrük in early-October and hasn’t found the back of the net since. After picking up a [knee ligament injury](https://www.fenerbahce.org/haberler/futbol/2020/11/bilgilendirme-1) in his side’s Turkish Cup win over Sivas Belediye last month, he has been out of action since.

The Tanzanian international, who became the [first player from the country](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/aston-villas-samatta-sets-four-records-on-premier-league/14dryk3ijsym51uxgmn3cpnrhe) to score in the Premier League back in February, was sidelined for the 4-3 defeat to Besiktas. He also missed the weekend’s win over Denizlispor victory and may not return until the end of December, having been set to [miss up to four weeks](https://www.fenerbahce.org/haberler/futbol/2020/11/teknik-direktorumuz-erol-bulut-basin-mensuplarina-aciklamalarda-bulundu) with his [latest injury setback](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mbwana-samatta/verletzungen/spieler/182201).

### READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT

Samatta doesn’t appear to have a future back at Aston Villa after scoring only two goals in [16 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mbwana-samatta/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/182201/verein/405), but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up next.

His former side Club Brugge were [linked](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-samatta-19398393) with a move for the striker but don’t appear interested at the moment. Unless Samatta can have a strong second half to the season, he may not be signed permanently by Fenerbahce or be given many more chances to impress at Villa Park.

***In other news, [one long-serving player](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/05/ashley-preece-expects-ahmed-elmohamady-to-leave-in-2021/) could leave Aston Villa at the end of the season.***
