# Aston Villa fans hail Ahmed Elmohamady’s display against Burnley

Aston Villa were disappointed not to beat Burnley in Thursday night’s 0-0 draw after having [27 shots](https://www.skysports.com/football/a-villa-vs-burnley/428958) without finding the back of the net, but they kept a [sixth league clean sheet of the season](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/clean_sheet?se=363) despite making [a number of changes](https://www.skysports.com/football/a-villa-vs-burnley/428958) to the starting lineup.

One of those saw [Ahmed Elmohamady](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/05/ashley-preece-expects-ahmed-elmohamady-to-leave-in-2021/) come in for the [suspended Matty Cash](https://www.skysports.com/football/a-villa-vs-burnley/428958) at right-back and put in a good performance. The Egyptian was dominant in the air, frequently put balls into the box for Villa’s attackers, turned over possession a number of times and created multiple chances for his teammates.

Against Burnley, Elmohamady played for 90 minutes, had 80 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 66% of his 53 passes, created four chances, had two shots, whipped in six crosses, made two interceptions and had one successful dribble. \[[WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485298/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Aston-Villa-Burnley)\]

The 33-year-old has made [seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ahmed-elmohamady/leistungsdaten/spieler/66333) in all competitions this season, but he only had his first Premier League start of the campaign against Burnley. With Cash a [regular at right-back](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322043/MatchStatistics/Matthew-Cash), Elmohamady has [often been relegated to the bench](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ahmed-elmohamady/leistungsdaten/spieler/66333), but he showed last night that he can still be trusted when called upon.

These Villa fans on Twitter hailed the Egyptian’s “masterclass” performance against the Clarets on a rare start for the 33-year-old:
