# Villa set to swerve potential move for Odsonne Edouard for two reasons

With Keinan Davis [struggling for game-time](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/keinan-davis/leistungsdaten/spieler/412660) and Wesley Moraes [slowly recovering](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-players-respond-new-19300922) from a long-term knee injury, Aston Villa could do with a striker to accompany Ollie Watkins.

Celtic’s [Odsonne Edouard](https://readceltic.com/2020/12/21/celtic-fans-discuss-gordons-reaction-to-edouard-penalty/) was one player on their wish list as he has scored 70 goals and made 33 assists in [147 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/344152) for the Hoops, but Gregg Evans of [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2265513/2020/12/22/aston-villa-sensible-transfers/) claimed that a deal doesn’t seem to be on the cards due to his lofty asking price and strong interest from AC Milan.

The 22-year-old has [won](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/erfolge/spieler/344152) three Scottish Premierships, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups in his two years at Parkhead, but his future is uncertain.

Edouard, who Neil Lennon [described](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/odsonne-edouard-given-special-celtic-21359640) as ‘talismanic’, has scored nine goals and supplied two assists in [19 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdaten/spieler/344152) across the board this season. However, he has been [criticised](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pundit-exclusive-edouard-may-be-in-talks-about-celtic-exit-next-month/) for his inconsistency as Celtic struggle in their bid to retain the Premiership title.

### READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT

Lennon’s side currently sit [second in the Premiership](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-table), 16 points adrift of Rangers with three games in hand. They’ve scored 13 fewer goals than Steven Gerrard’s side and have conceded nine more goals, so Celtic’s pursuit of a 10th consecutive league crown is in some jeopardy.

Edouard could well leave in that case, but Evans has seemed to rule out Villa’s chances of making a move for him. It appears that ship has sailed for Dean Smith.

***In other news, Aston Villa could [go back in for a reported summer target](https://readastonvilla.com/?p=32733) in January.***
