# Villa won’t let Jacob Ramsey leave in January

[Jacob Ramsey](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/15/dean-smith-says-jacob-ramsey-is-one-for-the-future/) looks to have a bright future at Aston Villa after [making his Premier League debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/503749/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/405) this season and being a [regular in the matchday squad since November](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749), so the Midlands outfit have no desire to let him go out on loan in January.

The 19-year-old could get regular game-time elsewhere for the next five months if he opted to join another side on loan, but [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-barkley-davis-19568805)‘s Ashley Preece reported that he is expected to stay and develop at Villa Park. Dean Smith has played Ramsey in [four of Villa’s last six league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749), so it’s no surprise that he will be kept at the club rather than farmed out elsewhere.

Despite having Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Ross Barkley, Conor Hourihane and Marvelous Nakamba for [competition in midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/ausfallzeiten/verein/405), Ramsey has made [eight appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749) in all competitions this season and played a full 90 minutes in December’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

### READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT

Smith has been [impressed with Ramsey in training](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-barkley-davis-19568805) and has included the 19-year-old in [each of Villa’s last seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749) league matchday squads. He has come off the bench in [their last three outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749) and has played [more minutes than Hourihane](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/leistungsdaten/verein/405) so far this season.

[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2302973/) claimed that there is a lot of Championship interest in Ramsey this month, but he doesn’t need to leave if he is getting minutes in Villa’s first team and has the backing of his manager.
