# Aston Villa don’t need to sign Christian Eriksen in January \[Opinion\]

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for [Christian Eriksen](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/06/aston-villa-interested-in-christian-eriksen/), but Corriere dello Sport claimed (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/aston-villa-made-timid-enquiry-big-name-player-feeling-hes-looking-something-bigger/)) that the 28-year-old would prefer a move to a bigger club.

Although Villa’s interest has been called ‘[timid](https://sportwitness.co.uk/aston-villa-made-timid-enquiry-big-name-player-feeling-hes-looking-something-bigger/)’, they’re better off avoiding Eriksen as his Inter Milan form has gone to pieces.

The Danish international [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/transfers/spieler/69633) the Nerazzurri from Tottenham in January 2020 and has gone on to make [39 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/69633) in all competitions, scoring only four goals and supplying three assists. The playmaker has struggled for form and game-time in his second season at the San Siro and [seemingly wants out of Inter](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/christian-eriksen-tottenham-inter-milan-22820237) as a result.

He has made 13 appearances across the board this season but has only amassed 393 minutes of playing time and doesn’t have a goal or assist to his name ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633)). Eriksen has spent the majority of the campaign on the bench under Antonio Conte and has been [public in his frustration](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/serie-a-news-christian-eriksen-inter-milan-tottenham-antonio-conte-b912377.html) with the Italian coach.

### READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has [confirmed](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/eriksen-set-to-leave-inter-as-ceo-marotta-confirms-midfielder-is-/1ckrx7y2bcxa61w7dab2g6e3m5) that Eriksen will be transfer-listed this month and Villa shouldn’t ignore the Dane’s poor form in his final season at Tottenham which led to his sale – two goals and two assists in 20 Premier League [games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633/plus/0?saison=2019).

He has had a bad 18 months, so Dean Smith is better off sticking with the trusted Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley, who have [seven goals and 10 assists between them](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/leistungsdaten/verein/405/reldata/%262020/plus/1) already this season.
