# Andre Villas-Boas makes transfer admission on Villa target Morgan Sanson

From the outside, it seems Aston Villa are [spoilt for choice in midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kadernachposition/verein/405), with John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Ross Barkley, Jacob Ramsey, Conor Hourihane, Marvelous Nakamba and Henri Lansbury

However, Lansbury was [left out of the Premier League squad](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1869523) in October, Nakamba [isn’t nailing down a starting place](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marvelous-nakamba/leistungsdaten/spieler/324882), Hourihane is now a [squad player](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-hourihane/leistungsdaten/spieler/61653) and Barkley is [only on loan](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2020/september/Villa-announce-Barkley-loan-signing/), so a new face in the engine room could be beneficial.

[Julien Maynard](https://twitter.com/JulienMaynard/status/1350501844460695552?s=20) of *Telefoot* claimed that Villa have shown an interest in Morgan Sanson and could make an offer for the 26-year-old before the January transfer window shuts.

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9156487/Marseille-boss-Andre-Villas-Boas-confirms-Premier-League-Morgan-Sanson.html) reported that West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also keen, and although Sanson is a [regular at Marseille](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-sanson/leistungsdaten/spieler/174094), his manager Andres Villas-Boas said in a press conference that he could be granted a departure amid all the interest.

The ex-Chelsea boss admitted: “We’ll see. The transfer window is open, Sanson is a player who is highly rated. Officially, we have not received any offers, unless it happened during the match. He is a boy who interests English teams because of his characteristics, and it is possible that something could happen.”

Sanson [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-sanson/transfers/spieler/174094) Marseille from Montpellier in 2017 and has gone on to make [156 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-sanson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/174094) in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and supplying 22 assists. The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9156487/Marseille-boss-Andre-Villas-Boas-confirms-Premier-League-Morgan-Sanson.html) claimed that the uncapped Frenchman is worth £20m and has 18 months remaining on his deal at the Stade Vélodrome, so his future might be uncertain in France.

Villa could do with signing a midfielder on a permanent deal, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll get Sanson over the line if Tottenham and Arsenal are also showing an interest.

Mid-season transfers are difficult for the selling club as there’s little time to locate a replacement, so why would Marseille let an important player like Sanson depart with the window closing in less than two weeks?
