# Trezeguet ‘going nowhere’ despite Galatasaray interest

[Trezeguet](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/14/trezeguet-explains-lengthy-injury-absence/) has an uncertain future at Aston Villa after struggling for fitness and form this season, but it doesn’t appear that he will be offloaded before the winter transfer window shuts.

Galatasaray [had shown an interest](https://en.as.com/en/2020/12/30/football/1609360007_198938.html) in the 26-year-old, but [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/2332091/2021/01/20/transfer-news-messi-barcelona-latest/) have reported that Trezeguet is ‘going nowhere’ in January because Dean Smith is content with his attacking options.

The Egyptian international has made nine Premier League appearances this season, failing to score and only registering one assist. His last outing for Villa came in November’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United and saw him substituted with a head injury. \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trezeguet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234189)\]

He was also [laid low with a viral infection](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/14/trezeguet-explains-lengthy-injury-absence/) while recovering from a deep cut in his head, resulting in him [missing Villa’s last seven games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trezeguet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234189) in all competitions. He may find himself behind Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore ahead in the pecking order upon his return as a result.

In the six Premier League games Trezeguet has missed, Grealish has supplied [three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-grealish/leistungsdaten/spieler/203460), El Ghazi has scored [five goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anwar-el-ghazi/leistungsdaten/spieler/183720) and Traore has [three goals and one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertrand-traore/leistungsdaten/spieler/131996) to his name. Smith is unlikely to drop one of them for a player who has contributed to only one league goal all season.

That being said, Villa are planning to keep Trezeguet for the remainder of the campaign, so Galatasaray will have to turn their attention elsewhere.

Gala are desperate to get back on top in the Turkish Super Lig after finishing outside of the European places last season, currently just [five points off the summit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/super-lig/tabelle/wettbewerb/TR1/saison_id/2020), so it’s easy to see why they’ve wanted a player who has had a hand in 43 goals in [71 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trezeguet/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/234189) for Kasimpasa between 2017 and 2019.

Their attempts are likely to be pushed back, however, which is the right move from a Villa perspective until they have lined up a replacement for the Egyptian.
