# Villa fans go wild after Ross Barkley is pictured in training

Aston Villa shared a [picture on Twitter](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1351471209989345280?s=20) of [Ross Barkley](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/12/villa-suffer-ross-barkley-transfer-blow-chelsea-hardball/) training with the first team ahead of tonight’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City and many fans were understandably very excited.

The 27-year-old has been out for two months with a [hamstring injury](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ross-barkley-injury-aston-villa-19569770), but his return finally appears to be on the horizon.

Barkley’s last appearance for Villa came in November’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. Just five minutes into the game, he took a free kick and ended up [hobbling off the pitch](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/breaking-barkley-injury-villa-chelsea-19322310) while clutching his right hamstring. Bertrand Traore replaced the England international and he has been out of action ever since.

Barkley was [ruled out for three weeks](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/02/ross-barkley-hamstring-injury-latest/) at the time of his injury but suffered continual setbacks in his recovery. He was [tipped to return](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/15/ross-barkley-getting-closer-to-return-from-injury/) to action on [numerous occasions](https://readastonvilla.com/2020/12/10/dean-smith-sets-possible-return-date-for-ross-barkley/) last month but his comeback failed to materialise.

The 27-year-old has made [nine appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/131978) in all competitions for Villa this season and has had a hand in four goals. Smith have been impressed with Barkley’s performances and [wants to make his loan move permanent](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/12/villa-suffer-ross-barkley-transfer-blow-chelsea-hardball/), so his return is fantastic news for the club and fans alike.

These Villa supporters took to Twitter to share their delight at seeing Barkley back on the training pitch:
