# Fans slate ‘woeful’ Elmohamady in Leicester defeat

[Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/february/Aston-Villa-1-2-Leicester-City/) on Sunday afternoon and [Ahmed Elmohamady](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/02/16/ahmed-elmohamady-deputy-injured-matty-cash-aston-villa/) was one of the players criticised by numerous supporters for his performance. The 33-year-old came in for the [injured](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1362117360253947904?s=20) Matty Cash at right-back but struggled to contain Harvey Barnes over the 90 minutes.

For Leicester’s first goal, he was drawn to the ball and challenged his own teammate in the air, which saw Barnes pick up the ball in space and find James Maddison, who finished into the bottom corner. For their second goal, Elmohamady was flat-footed and ball-watching as Barnes scored from close range after Emiliano Martinez’s save landed in his path.

Against the Foxes, Elmohamady had 78 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 76.1% of his 46 passes, created one chance, whipped in four crosses (only one found a team-mate), won four tackles, blocked one shot, made four interceptions and made one clearance ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485432/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Aston-Villa-Leicester)). He gave away possession 18 times on the day, the second-most of any Aston Villa player ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/aston-villa-leicester-city/GP)).

The 33-year-old wasn’t all bad. He did lay a glove on Leicester, turning over the ball [eight times](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485432/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Aston-Villa-Leicester) and getting balls in the box at the other end, but he was just paired up against a fantastic winger who had the beating of him when the space was available in behind.

Leicester took no prisoners on the day and these Aston Villa supporters on social media weren’t too kind to Elmohamady on a difficult afternoon for him, with one disparaging fan even labelling the 33-year-old a “dinosaur”.

> Guilbert has played 2 games in Ligue 1 and has an average rating of 7.58 in those. \
> \
> We're stuck playing Elmohamady at right back with a midfielder who is simply unable to track back.\
> \
> In a year of excellent transfer moves by the board, this one stinks, reeks in fact. [#avfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/avfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
