# Fans say ‘fantastic’ Elmohamady is a ‘real hero’

[Aston Villa enjoyed a 1-0 win over Leeds United](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/february/Leeds-United-0-1-Aston-Villa/) on Saturday evening and Ahmed Elmohamady was one of many players who impressed. The 33-year-old lined up against Leeds’ top-assister Raphinha, who’s had a hand in 10 goals from 18 Premier League starts this season, but he stopped him registering a shot on target and did his best to stifle his creativity.

> Elmohamady have to drive back to Elland Road last night to drop off raphinha. He didn't realise he was still in he's back pocket till he stopped off at service station on the M1. > He’s proven to be one of our best value signings over the past 10 years to be fair and has been great for us.

> Fantastic pro and role model for younger players, looks after himself well so has another season in him at least. Hope he then gets a role behind the scenes with the back room staff

> Elmo has been one of the best value signings we’ve ever made. £1m for some much needed versatility and professionalism which has been key in taking us back to where we are. Real Villa hero for me.

> Model pro – really been impressed with his overall contribution to the club\
> \
> Mind you, what do we expect from the best Egyptian in the Premier League?

> He has been solid for us really, always performs when called upon even in the last 2 years where he has been used sparingly. Does the dirty, works hard and likes the club. What more do you want

> Elmo- Mr reliable.\
> \
> His experience is invaluable, his calmness reassuring. Rarely let’s Villa down when asked and some don’t realise how difficult is is to come in after not playing for so long. \
> \
> To think some wanted Kessler in for yesterday’s game 🤫🤦🏻‍♂️ Great potential yes.

Against Leeds, Elmo played for 90 minutes, had 37 touches, completed 63.6% of his 22 passes, made four clearances, had one shot and made two interceptions. ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485346/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Leeds-Aston-Villa)). Raphinha cut a tired figure on the advertising hoardings as Elmo made him work hard for an opportunity, so Dean Smith will be delighted that he’s shone in Matty Cash’s absence.

The Egyptian international has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, starting only three times in the Premier League ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ahmed-elmohamady/leistungsdaten/spieler/66333/saison/2020/plus/1#gesamt)). Elmo is backup to Cash but has proven he can step up until the 23-year-old returns. Next up for Villa is a trip to face Sheffield United on Wednesday.

Some fans questioned why Villa allowed Frederic Guilbert to join Racing Strasbourg on loan in January, but Elmohamady is a model professional who Smith trusts to perform.
