# Strasbourg manager interested in signing Guilbert

Frederic Guilbert struggled for playing time at Aston Villa and was loaned out to Racing Strasbourg in January. The 26-year-old has impressed for the Ligue 1 outfit, contributing three goals from four appearances, leading to praise from manager Thierry Laurey who also admitted an interest in signing him.

The 57-year-old coach told *L’Equipe* (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manager-says-aston-villa-player-will-prospects-future-maintains-level-end-season/)): “He arrived with the right mentality. He is very appreciated in the dressing room and does everything in the right direction.” Guilbert joined Strasbourg at the end of January and initially had to be patient for an opportunity.

The uncapped Frenchman has played every minute of their last four games and is yet to be on the losing team. Guilbert has scored one and made two assists, so three of Strasbourg’s last four goals have come from the right-back ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederic-guilbert/leistungsdaten/spieler/354352)).

Laurey added: “(Guilbert) has a profile a bit similar to Kenny Lala (who recently left Strasbourg and joined Olympiacos). He has great self-confidence. If he manages to maintain this level until the end, he will have other prospects for the future…”

Although Villa plan to replace Elmohamady for Guilbert next season, the 26-year-old may have an uncertain future. He’s made 31 appearances in all competitions for Villa, but his last outing came all the way back in October 2020 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederic-guilbert/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/354352)).

Guilbert may be open to a move if he’s not guaranteed a starting place at Villa next season, so Strasbourg might have a chance of landing his signature in the coming months.
