# It’s been 11 years and a day since Nathan Delfouneso scored first league goal for Aston Villa

It’s been 11 years and a day since Nathan Delfouneso scored his [first Premier League goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-delfouneso/alletore/spieler/62642/plus/0?saison=&verein=405&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&minute=&pos=&torart=&stand=) for Aston Villa. From Brian Beard’s ‘Aston Villa On This Day – History, Facts & Figures from Every Day of the Year’

Delfouneso was [tipped](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2152408-nathan-delfouneso-from-future-england-star-to-football-mediocrity) to become a ‘future England star’ after rising through the youth ranks to Villa’s first-team, but he failed to reach his potential. The 30-year-old struggled to hold down a starting place due to stiff competition in attack and was sent out on loan to a number of clubs to get playing time.

Delfouneso made [11 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-delfouneso/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/62642) for Burnley (March 1, 2011 – May 1, 2011), five appearances for Leicester City (January 1, 2012 – February 1, 2012), 53 appearances for Blackpool (August 31, 2012 – May 31, 2013) (August 16, 2013 – January 2, 2014) and 14 appearances for Coventry City (January 30, 2014 – May 31, 2014), before [joining](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-delfouneso/transfers/spieler/62642) Blackpool permanently on a free transfer in 2014.

He scored nine goals in 52 games for Villa and now plys his trade at Bolton Wanderers after joining the Trotters last summer.
