Morgan Sanson has been short of fitness and playing time this season, amassing only 42 minutes of football as he’s been on the periphery in 2021/22.

The 27-year-old, who has barely played for Villa in the last 10 months due to injury woes, has spent the campaign sidelined with a knee problem, causing him to miss all but one game.

Sanson is on the recovery trail, however, returning to training ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The French midfielder posted a picture on Instagram to mark his comeback.

Dean Smith has Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba and John McGinn at his disposal, so time will tell if Sanson can get himself back in favour.

The 27-year-old joined Villa from Olympique Marseille in January and has gone on to make just 10 appearances in all competitions, amassing 333 minutes.

Birmingham Live describe his impending return as a new signing for Villa, but Sanson will have to stay fit, something he’s so far been unable to do. It’s not guaranteed he’ll make the squad against Wolves as it all depends on his fitness.
