Marvelous Nakamba had a disappointing international break with Zimbabwe, suffering consecutive defeats in their World Cup Africa qualifiers to Ghana.

The national team lost 3-1 on October 9 and 1-0 on October 12 with Nakamba starting in both games. The 27-year-old was probably relieved to return to Bodymoor Heath and posted a video on his Instagram story of him travelling back to the country.

Nakamba has played 21 times for Zimbabwe but hasn’t been on the winning team since their 2-1 win over Zambia on November 19, 2019. The 27-year-old isn’t having the best luck domestically either, amassing only 177 minutes of Premier League football from a possible 630 this season, so he’ll no doubt hope for more opportunities.

Nakamba has played six times for Villa this campaign but isn’t a regular under Dean Smith anymore. He finds himself behind Douglas Luiz and John McGinn in the pecking order while having competition from the returning Morgan Sanson, so his long-term future may be up in the air.

Nevertheless, Nakamba should still make the squad that hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
