# Fans on social media slate ‘awful’ Leon Bailey’s ‘terrible’ performance

Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Southampton on Friday evening and Leon Bailey was one of many players slated by supporters on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=leon%20bailey&src=typed_query&f=live) for his performance.

Villa’s loss at St Mary’s was their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat and Bailey’s showing in the South Coast earned himself a player rating of 2/10 from [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/aston-villa-southampton-player-ratings-22086738).

> Bailey has been horrendously bad tonight\
> So selfish at times, that free kick summed it up[#avfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/avfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Truly pathetic performance so far. The players look scared and dysfunctional as a team. Bailey el ghazi and buendia abysmal. I cant understand how we have got so bad so quickly. Love the manager but hate the football we are serving up. He and the team have to do better.

> That was awful. Chuck and JPB must wonder how they are not getting a look in. Bailey does not look anywhere near Prem level last 2 games

> Tuanzebe – horrendous\
> El Ghazi – absolute liability\
> McGinn & Nakamba – what little they've done has been useless\
> Buendia – non factor\
> Bailey – all that carry just to give the ball away\
> \
> Embarrassing how much better Southampton is than this lineup.

Bailey failed to create a chance or whip in an accurate cross and he relinquished possession through an unsupported touch more than his teammates.

[Against Southampton](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549647/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Southampton-Aston-Villa), the 24-year-old played for 90 minutes, had 45 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 75% of his 20 passes, created zero chances, had one shot on target, whipped in eight crosses without finding a teammate, made three tackles and had two successful dribbles.

Bailey [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-bailey/transfers/spieler/387626) Villa on a four-year deal from Bayer Leverkusen in August and has gone on to make [six appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-bailey/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/387626) in all competitions, scoring one goal with two assists. The Jamaican international has amassed just 291 minutes of football from a possible 1170 due to injury, so fans haven’t seen the best of him yet.
