# Fans on social media react as Carney Chukwuemeka ‘will not sign’ new deal

Carney Chukwuemeka is [regarded](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/carney-chukwuemeka-aston-villa-wonderkid-europe-top-clubs/1rfzq9h0qmjip1gs8j6glmyev5)as the best talent from Aston Villa’s academy and one of the best young players in Europe, so the [Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/nov/26/aston-villa-carney-chukwuemeka-will-not-sign-new-contract) revealing he ‘will not sign’ a new deal will have rocked the Midlands club and its fans.

The 18-year-old has scored 10 goals with eight assists from [26 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carney-chukwuemeka/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/659459) for the U18s and has three goals with five assists from 27 games for the U23s. Chukwuemeka’s form at youth level was rewarded by Dean Smith, resulting in the central midfielder making three appearances in the first-team this season.

Chukwuemeka’s deal at Villa Park has 18 months to run, so there is still time to tie him down to a new deal, but this latest revelation is bad news nonetheless. Supporters on [social media](https://twitter.com/guardian_sport/status/1464285690062114822) believe he should be let go if he’s not willing to commit his long-term future.

> No need to create negativity or resentment. If won't sign by summer we move him on. Iroegbunam becoming more and more the standout midfielder for young Villa anyway. If training and being in first team squad isn't enough – let him find out somewhere else and reinvest the fee.

Chukwuemeka has featured five times at senior level for Villa and has made the bench on a number of occasions, so it does appear he’ll be in and around the first-team this season. He’ll also have Steven Gerrard as a mentor, so who better to learn your trade from?
