# Fans on social media react as Aston Villa are linked with Dele Alli

Aston Villa aren’t short of creative midfielders with John McGinn and Douglas Luiz making [42 chances](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) between them in the Premier League this season, but the Midlands outfit are lacking a natural playmaker who can relinquish his defensive duties and just make opportunities for Villa’s forwards.

Jacob Ramsey is certainly of the mould, creating [10 chances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/369813/Show/Jacob-Ramsey) and making 10/17 successful dribbles in 915 minutes of Premier League football, but Steven Gerrard wants a tried and tested alternative and has been [tipped](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-gomez-22538268) to sign Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur. Fans on [social media](https://www.facebook.com/astonvillanews/posts/10159475873379557) don’t want him, however.

**Steve Johnson:** “Dele Alli is a spent force. Massively overrated (and) has done nothing for 2 years. Hope Gerard doesn’t fall into the trap of thinking he can get the best out of him. Avoid all costs!”

**Tony Pace:** “We need to keep space for our kids. I don’t think Ali is better than what we have.”

**Cora Elizabeth Fowler:** “Please not Alli. He is not good enough.”

**GusorGary Payne:** “Don’t need or want Alli 🤷🏼‍♂️”

**Derek Hern:** “Alli is a spent force. Got too big for his boots and not much better than championship player.”

Dele [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/transfers/spieler/207929) Spurs from MK Dons in 2015 and has gone on to make [266 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/207929) in all competitions, scoring 67 goals with 61 assists. The 25-year-old has struggled for consistency in recent years, however, which has raised uncertainty over his future in North London.

Dele scored just three goals with five assists from [29 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/207929/plus/0?saison=2020&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) last season and has netted only two goals with one assist from [15 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/207929/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) this campaign. He’s not had the most prolific 18 months which is why fans would rather sign another playmaker, but time will tell what Villa end up doing in January.
