# Fans on social media say Aston Villa ‘will regret’ not extending Douglas Luiz’s contract

Douglas Luiz has an uncertain future at Aston Villa. The 23-year-old is out of contract in 18 months and is yet to put pen to paper on an extension. [Arsenal](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/17194986/douglas-luiz-arsenal-aston-villa-transfer-target/) and [AS Roma](https://www.transfermarketweb.com/premier-league/premier-aston-villa-face-douglas-luiz-contract-issue-as-roma-prowling-224022) have shown an interest in Luiz and [reports](https://sportwitness.co.uk/aston-villa-star-wants-leave-gerrards-side-set-not-negotiable-demand-january/) in November suggested the Brazilian international was open to leaving Villa.

Luiz is expected to have enquiries this month and supporters on [social media](https://twitter.com/AVFCFaithful_/status/1480016391562530818) are worried about losing such a talented player. Fans hope Villa resolve his contract situation as soon as possible, as they feel the 23-year-old is too valuable to let go.

The Brazilian international [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/transfers/spieler/447661) Villa on a four-year deal from Manchester City in 2019 and has gone on to make [91 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/447661) in all competitions, scoring three goals with eight assists. Luiz has been a regular under Dean Smith and now Steven Gerrard, so garnering attention from big clubs due to his performances.

Luiz’s form has been inconsistent when he’s asked to operate in a deep-lying role, but he could get back to his best if Villa sign a defensive-midfielder as planned this month.
