# Fans on social media hail ‘class’ Anwar El Ghazi as he agrees to join Everton

Anwar El Ghazi had an uncertain future at Aston Villa ever since Leon Bailey arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City. The 26-year-old had already fallen behind Bertrand Traore in the pecking order and now had more competition for a starting place.

He’s made [12/24 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anwar-el-ghazi/leistungsdaten/spieler/183720) in all competitions this season, amassing 547/2160 minutes of football across the board. El Ghazi has spent the majority of the campaign as an unused substitute, so it’s no surprise he’s sought a move away from Villa Park. Philippe Coutinho’s arrival further complicates matters too.

Everton were interested in the Dutch international and were in talks over a £15m deal before changing that to a loan move without obligation to buy – an offer [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1481271202681401348?s=20) says Villa have accepted. Fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=el%20ghazi&src=typed_query&f=live) wished him well and think it’s a move that benefits all parties.

> I do wish El Ghazi well. He did try when he put on the Villa shirt and that's all you can really ask for. He was crucial in our promotion too and that shouldn't be forgotten. Unfortunately he's just not good enough to take us to the next level.[#EFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/EFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#AVFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/AVFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> If El Ghazi does go i wish him well. Whoever was in Wembley for the playoff final when he scored would also agree. [#avfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/avfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#elgoalzi](https://twitter.com/hashtag/elgoalzi?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> If [@elghazi1995](https://twitter.com/elghazi1995?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) leaves villa, I wish him all the best.. he will do well where ever he goes.. he’s been great at villa, scoring some really important goals for us. He will forever be part of our history.. [#utv](https://twitter.com/hashtag/utv?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) \

> Fans probably gonna be slagging off el ghazi now he might be departing. But for me he been a big part of getting us back to the Premier league and helping us stay there. Wish him all the best if he goes

> El Ghazi should have much more of a cult-hero status than he does. Gave 100% to Villa, scored huge goals like in the playoff final, v Everton after project restart, last minute winner v Wolves. Broke his fast during Ramadan to make sure he was at peak fitness for us. Class bloke.

> Good signing for Everton, scores goals, but doesn't work hard enough in Gerards system

El Ghazi [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anwar-el-ghazi/transfers/spieler/183720) Villa on loan from LOSC Lille in August 2018 and turned the move permanent the following summer. He’s made a total of 119 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals with 16 assists, and will be lauded a good servant for the club, not least for his [goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anwar-el-ghazi/alletore/spieler/183720) in the Championship playoff final that fired Villa back to the Premier League.
