# Fans on social media react as Aston Villa close in on Robin Olsen

Aston Villa have been busy in the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move), signing Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona and Lucas Digne permanently from Everton, but the Midlands outfit aren’t done there. [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1481697187629350921) of *Sky Sports* and the *Guardian* says Villa are closing in on a loan move for Robin Olsen.

The 32-year-old [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robin-olsen/transfers/spieler/75458) AS Roma from FC Copenhagen in 2018 and has gone on to make [35 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robin-olsen/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/75458) in all competitions, conceding 58 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

Olsen was loaned out to Everton (October 2020 – June 2021) after a lukewarm debut season in Italy and joined Sheffield United (August 2021 – present) a year later, but *Romano* says his stay at Bramall Lane will be cut short this month.

The Swedish international made only [11 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robin-olsen/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75458) for Everton and didn’t set the place alight at Goodison Park – 16 goals conceded and three clean sheets. Olsen has made 11 appearances for the Blades and kept only one clean sheet, but fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=olsen%20%23avfc&src=typed_query&f=live) are still excited at his impending arrival.

> Decent signing if it happens, an upgrade on our current bench options if nothing else. [#avfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/avfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Regardless if this keeper is good or meh, Villa doing some business this winter just shows the ambition of the club with Gerrard. Hoping for a good match this weekend

> For all Jed Steer is an absolute Villa legend for what he did during our promotion season, he has only ever played 3 Premier League games, Olsen whatever anybody thinks of his quality, has big match experience and that can always be learned from.

Olsen won’t dethrone Emiliano Martinez as Villa’s first-choice goalkeeper, but the 32-year-old could be backup, ahead of Jed Steer. He’s only going to join Villa on loan until the summer, however, so Steven Gerrard will need another deputy shot-stopper at the end of the season.
