# Journalists say Ramsey ‘struggled’ v Arsenal

[Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/march/19/Aston-Villa-0-1-Arsenal/) on Saturday afternoon and Jacob Ramsey was one of many players who underperformed. The 20-year-old started alongside John McGinn and Douglas Luiz in midfield but struggled to Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

Ramsey failed to create a chance, didn’t see a lot of the ball, was guilty of giving away cheap fouls, failed to make a successful dribble and didn’t have a shot of his own. The England U21 international was withdrawn in the second half and may benefit from a rest in Villa’s next game.

*Cole Pettem* of [7500 to Holte](https://7500toholte.sbnation.com/2022/3/19/22986344/player-ratings-aston-villa-0-1-arsenal) gave Ramsey a player rating of 4/10 and said he had ‘a day to forget’ at Villa Park. *Matt Maher* of the [Express and Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/aston-villa/2022/03/21/aston-villa-0-1-arsenal---player-ratings/) gave the 20-year-old a player rating of 5/10 and said he endured the ‘toughest afternoon’. *Ashley Preece* of [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/aston-villa-player-ratings-arsenal-23442191) gave him a player rating of 4/10 and said he ‘struggled’ to make an impact. *Tom Gott* of [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/aston-villa-0-1-arsenal-player-ratings-saka-nets-arsenals-2000th-premier-league-goal-2021-22) gave Ramsey a player rating of 4/10 and claimed he ‘didn’t offer anything’ against Arsenal.

Ramsey has made [28 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/503749) in all competitions this season, scoring six goals with one assist. He’s been one of Villa’s top performers in 2021/22 but hasn’t been at his best of late and might need a rest against Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 2.
