# Journalists say ‘poor’ Konsa ‘struggled’ v Tottenham

[Aston Villa suffered a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/april/09/aston-villa-0-4-tottenham-hotspur/) on Saturday evening and Ezri Konsa was one of many players who underperformed. The 24-year-old started alongside Tyrone Mings at centre-back but was somewhat culpable for all four of Spurs’ goals.

Konsa botched his header in the build-up to [Tottenham’s opening](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjqBvx2eJF0&ab_channel=SkySportsFootball) goal from Son Heung-min, was beaten to the ball in the build-up to Spurs’ second goal from Dejan Kulusevski, was again beaten to the ball in the build-up to their third goal and he didn’t get tight enough to Son in the penalty area when trying to block his shot.

*Ashley Preece* of [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/aston-villa-player-ratings-tottenham-23648501) gave Konsa a player rating of 3/10 and said Calum Chambers could replace him in their next game. *Jude Summerfield* of [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/aston-villa-0-4-tottenham-player-ratings-premier-league-2021-22) gave the 24-year-old a player rating of 3/10 and called his performance ‘poor’. *Cole Pettem* of [7500toHolte](https://7500toholte.sbnation.com/2022/4/9/23018073/player-ratings-aston-villa-0-4-tottenham-hotspur) gave him a player rating of 3/10, saying he delivered ‘one of the worst performances’ at centre-back while ‘struggling’ to cope with Tottenham’s movement.

[Against Spurs](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549857/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Aston-Villa-Tottenham), Konsa played for 90 minutes, had 58 touches, failed to make a tackle, won one aerial duel, failed to make an interception, completed 100% of his 49 passes, had two shots, made one clearance and blocked two shots. Whether he gets to redeem himself in Villa’s next outing remains to be seen.
