# Villa may regret signing Emi Buendia

Emiliano Buendia [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-buendia/transfers/spieler/321247) Aston Villa on a five-year deal from Norwich City last summer and has gone on to make [30 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-buendia/leistungsdaten/spieler/321247) in all competitions, scoring two goals with four assists.

The 25-year-old set Villa back [£38m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12321904/aston-villa-sign-emiliano-buendia-on-five-year-deal-for-club-record-transfer-fee) in June but has scored just one Premier League goal since August 2021 and has only one assist in the top-flight since the turn of the year.

Buendia scored 15 goals and made 17 assists in [39 Championship games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-buendia/leistungsdaten/spieler/321247/plus/0?saison=2020) for Norwich last season but has suffered with the step up in quality. The Argentine international has put in some [good performances](https://readastonvilla.com/2022/01/25/fans-on-social-media-say-brilliant-emi-buendia-is-a-fantastic-player/), but his lowly output has resulted in him being dropped.

Buendia has started just one of Villa’s last seven league games, so Steven Gerrard is losing trust in the club-record signing. But with four years left on his deal, coupled with a [market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-buendia/marktwertverlauf/spieler/321247) of £31.5m, it’s hard to see him being sold this summer.

There won’t be a queue of suitors looking to sign the 25-year-old due to his poor numbers, so [Gerrard will have to work with Buendia](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-waford-gerrard-buendia-23158247) to help him turn things around. Time will tell if he’s successful.
