# Ben Mee could be good for Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard is overstocked at centre-back with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Kortney Hause, Calum Chambers and Boubacar Kamara at his disposal, but it doesn’t appear Aston Villa are done strengthening their defence.

*Ben Husband* and *Tom Blow* of the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-pogba-dejong-27097661) say Ben Mee is on Villa’s radar. The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and will leave Burnley after 11 years of service. James Tarkowski is also exiting Turf Moor following the Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League and has been linked with Villa, but it remains to be seen which centre-back they’ll sign.

Mee turns 33 in September and goes under the radar more than his defensive partner at times, but he’s no slouch. The uncapped Englishman [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-mee/transfers/spieler/74810) Burnley from Manchester City in 2012 and has gone on to make [376 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-mee/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/74810) in all competitions, scoring 12 goals with 12 assists.

The club captain has made [21 Premier League appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-mee/leistungsdaten/spieler/74810) in his final season, making 26 tackles, being dribbled past only seven times, making 24 interceptions, giving away only nine fouls, making 92 clearances, blocking 22 shots and winning 68 aerial duels.

Mee boasts more tackles and clearances [than](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) Ezri Konsa (25 & 82), so he’d certainly improve the Villa defence. There is stiff competition for his signature, however, so he might take some convincing.
