# Jacob Ramsey having slow start to the season

Jacob Ramsey was outstanding for Aston Villa in 2021/22, culminating in him being [named](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/may/12/matty-cash-voted-supporters--player-of-the-season/) Players’ Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season. The 21-year-old scored [six goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/369813/History/Jacob-Ramsey) with one assist from 34 Premier League games, creating 21 chances and having 30 successful dribbles.

Ramsey hasn’t managed to pick up where he left off, however, as he’s without a goal or assist from [three league appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/369813/Show/Jacob-Ramsey) this season and isn’t putting in enough good performances.

The England U21 international [struggled](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/aston-villa-player-ratings-bournemouth-24689955) in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth and [underwhelmed](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/aston-villa-player-ratings-palace-24810628) in the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. He’s tidy in possession (92.8% pass completion) and is turning over the ball in midfield (5 tackles, 3 interceptions), but he’s not showing the same attacking prowess as last season.

Ramsey is 8th in the Villa squad for [shots taken](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) (2) and is third for most unsuccessful dribbles (3/6), so it’s clear he needs to work on his decision-making and positioning in the final third. The 21-year-old will be desperate to kick on after a brilliant season, but he’s so far having a slow and unconvincing start.
