# Danny Ings didn’t make an impact v West Ham

[Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/august/28/aston-villa-v-west-ham-united/) on Saturday afternoon and Danny Ings was one of many players who underperformed. The 30-year-old started alongside Ollie Watkins in attack but failed to make a real impact and was substituted in the second half as a result.

Ings didn’t create chances for his teammates, didn’t test the goalkeeper with any of his own efforts and his decision-making off the ball was questionable. The England international should have been buoyed after scoring and assisting in midweek, but he wasn’t at the races.

*John Townley* of [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-west-ham-ratings-24869248) gave Ings a player rating of 6/10 and said he was ‘feeding off scraps’ but noted that the 30-year-old did hunt down opportunities when possible. Whether he’s done enough to warrant starting against Arsenal on Wednesday remains to be seen, however.

[Against West Ham](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1640705/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2022-2023-Aston-Villa-West-Ham), Ings played for 77 minutes, had 23 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 71.4% of his 14 passes, failed to create a chance, had one shot which didn’t hit the target, whipped in one cross which failed to find a teammate, won one freekick and had one successful dribble.
