# John McGinn was poor against Arsenal

[Aston Villa lost 2-1 away to Arsenal](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/august/31/arsenal---aston-villa/) on Wednesday to end the evening in the Premier League relegation zone and John McGinn was one of many players who underperformed.

The 27-year-old has been in poor form of late and was fortunate to make the starting eleven against Arsenal, but Steven Gerrard might be considering a change after McGinn’s latest showing.

*Chris Deeley* of [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/arsenal-2-1-aston-villa-player-ratings-premier-league-2022-23) gave the Scottish international a player rating of 4/10 and said he made such little impact that it would be hard to remember he was on the pitch for three quarters of the game.

[Against Arsenal](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1640714/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2022-2023-Arsenal-Aston-Villa), McGinn played for 72 minutes, had 28 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 77.3% of his 22 passes, failed to create a chance, picked up a booking, failed to make a tackle, had one clearance, failed to make an interception, gave away three fouls and had two successful dribbles.

The 27-year-old has made [six appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-mcginn/leistungsdaten/spieler/193116) in all competitions this season but may be given a rest by Gerrard as his form isn’t getting any better. Playing Manchester City on Saturday will be the biggest test, so Villa can’t afford to carry passengers.
