# Aston Villa: Transfer insider drops Dendoncker claim

Transfer insider, Dean Jones, has dropped a behind-the-scenes claim regarding one of [Aston Villa’s](https://readastonvilla.com/) latest signings, Leander Dendoncker.

Speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88055364-aston-villa-the-exciting-reason-15m-star-made-late-villa-park-move), Jones had this to say about the Belgian’s recent arrival from fellow Premier League side Wolves.

He said: “I’m told Dendoncker is excited about the prospect of establishing himself in the Villa team. At Wolves his path was totally blocked but he wants to go and prove a point now. He feels like he’s joining a club with more potential but he has to make it work.”

Villa continued their track record of signing players from fellow English clubs on the final day of the recent summer transfer window as they secured a [deal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12687258/leander-dendoncker-aston-villa-sign-belgian-midfielder-from-wolves) for Dendoncker worth a reported fee of £13m.

Wolves originally signed the 27-year-old [on loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leander-dendoncker/transfers/spieler/168157) from RSC Anderlecht back in the summer of 2018, before securing him on a permanent deal a year later.

During his time at Molineux, the midfielder made [159](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leander-dendoncker/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/168157) appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in the process.

To highlight how useful he was for Bruno Lage’s side in the Premier League last season, only two other Wolves players ended the campaign with a higher percentage for shots on target than Dendoncker ([43.5%](https://fbref.com/en/squads/8cec06e1/2021-2022/Wolverhampton-Wanderers-Stats)), while only three of his previous teammates racked up a higher pass completion percentage than him ([87.3%](https://fbref.com/en/squads/8cec06e1/2021-2022/Wolverhampton-Wanderers-Stats)).

This shows how assured he is in possession and how much of a goal threat he can be when finding himself in a goalscoring position.

Now that Jones has revealed how excited the former Wolves star is to be at Villa and the mindset he has to do the best he can and prove a point, this will surely be a very exciting thing for Steven Gerrard and the supporters to see from their new signing.

Moving forward, if Dendoncker can secure himself a regular position in Villa’s starting XI, this will give him a great platform to show why the Villans were right to sign him and why Wolves were wrong to let him go.
