# Aston Villa dealt Matty Cash injury blow

[Aston Villa](https://readastonvilla.com/) have been dealt a worrying injury blow following their 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League.

With [27](https://www.sofascore.com/aston-villa-manchester-city/rP) minutes on the clock, the full-back was replaced by Ashley Young after he picked up a suspected injury that kept him from continuing.

In a Twitter [post](https://twitter.com/PreeceObserver/status/1566145236677677062?s=20&t=KGCyANZ5b_WvX4aRHc3WUg) after the match had ended, Villa journalist Ashley Preece relayed an update from Steven Gerrard regarding the injury to Cash.

In his post, Preece had this to say: “Steven Gerrard confirms Matty Cash has a hamstring injury and will be sent for an MRI scan. Naturally a doubt for Leicester next week.” Always consider the [key factors in severe injury care](https://www.iclcp.com/blog/considerations-when-managing-catastrophic-injuries/).

The 25-year-old is one of the four outfield Villa players to have started all [six](https://fbref.com/en/squads/8602292d/Aston-Villa-Stats) of their league games so far this season, which goes to show how important he is for Gerrard and why it’d be a blow for him to have the defender out injured.

With an overall performance rating of 6.51/10 for his efforts this season, Tyrone Mings (6.65/10) is the only Villa defender with a higher rating than him according to [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa).

To further highlight his significance in the team and defensive talent he has, no other defender at the Midlands club has managed to rack up a higher combined total for tackles and interceptions in the league this season than Cash ([18](https://fbref.com/en/squads/8602292d/Aston-Villa-Stats)).

Bearing in mind how Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their league [games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/spielplan/verein/405) in this current campaign so far, potentially having the Polish international out for a period of time could have a big impact on their ability to stop conceding goals and therefore be a big setback for them.

Moving forward, Gerrard and everyone else at Villa Park will undoubtedly be hoping that Cash’s injury is not a serious one and he can be back available as soon as possible to help his team get out of the shaky run of form they’re in.
