# Aston Villa dealt another injury blow in Leeds United draw

[Aston Villa](https://readastonvilla.com/) not only failed to secure a [consecutive](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/spielplan/verein/405) Premier League victory on Sunday as they drew 0-0 against Leeds United but they were also struck with a concerning injury blow.

Just before half-time, Villa were forced into a [change](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1576607702163329025?s=20&t=k-SABmsjcNg1398oqV82Gg) after Ludwig Augustinsson picked up an injury in what was his first [appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ludwig-augustinsson/leistungsdaten/spieler/170646) for the club, which then led to Jan Bednarek coming on to make his [debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jan-bednarek/leistungsdaten/spieler/243028).

After the game, Steven Gerrard was asked whether or not the left-back could now be out of action for a significant period of time.

In response, the Villa manager [said](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-fearing-worst-over-25160328): “Possibly, we’ll scan him tomorrow. When you leave the pitch as early as that and you’re holding that area you’re fearing the worst so I expect it to be a hamstring.”

Bearing in mind how the Midlands club already have Lucas Digne out with an ankle [injury](https://theathletic.com/3610959/2022/09/20/lucas-digne-france-squad/) he picked up while on international duty, having Augustinsson out as well will surely be a big blow and a big worry for the club and Gerrard.

During his time on the pitch at Elland Road, the Swedish international, who joined Villa on a season-long loan [deal](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11003299/Aston-Villa-confirm-season-long-loan-signing-Swedish-defender-Ludwig-Augustinsson-Sevilla.html) from Sevilla back in July, showed his defensive credentials by making one tackle, one clearance and winning [six](https://www.sofascore.com/aston-villa-leeds-united/JsP) of the nine duels he was involved in.

Even though only eight clubs in the league have conceded more goals than Villa ([10](https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/Premier-League-Stats)) this season, not having their two main left-backs available will still be a concern for Gerrard and his coaching staff moving forward.

While everyone at the club will undoubtedly be hoping that the injury Augustinsson picked up at the weekend is not a serious one, it could be a case of having to play certain players in different positions for the time being should he find himself alongside Digne on the sidelines.
