# Aston Villa officially announce season-long defender transfer

**Aston Villa have confirmed that Andrés García has joined Getafe on loan for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.**

The right-back returns to Spain after struggling to secure regular football under Unai Emery during his first 18 months at Villa Park.

García made eight appearances across all competitions last season. Those outings followed ten appearances during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign after his arrival from Levante.

The 23-year-old will now continue his development in La Liga, with no permanent purchase option disclosed in Villa’s announcement.

As [Read Aston Villa reported before the deal was completed](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/07/14/andres-garcia-closing-in-on-aston-villa-loan-exit/), Getafe moved ahead of Valencia to secure García after offering a clearer route to regular first-team football.

## García handed chance to earn regular football

García progressed through Levante’s academy before establishing himself in their senior side.

Villa signed him in January 2025 as a long-term option at right-back. However, Matty Cash remained Emery’s preferred starter, while García also faced competition from more versatile defensive options.

The Spaniard was part of his country’s squad at the 2025 European Under-21 Championship and remains under contract at Villa Park.

Villa previously described García as a quick and attack-minded full-back after completing his transfer from Levante. The club’s [official introduction to the defender](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2025/january/21/getting-to-know-andr-s-garc-a/) outlined his rise through Spanish football before his move to England.

A full season at Getafe should provide the minutes García needs before Villa reassess his place in Emery’s squad next summer.
