# Aston Villa captain drops five-word message days before PSG final after injury scare

**John McGinn has delivered a hugely encouraging five-word message ahead of Aston Villa’s UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain following his recent injury scare.**

The Villa captain caused concern when he landed awkwardly on his left knee and was forced off during the 3-1 friendly victory over BG Pathum United in Thailand.

McGinn’s problem immediately raised questions over whether he would recover in time for Wednesday’s showdown with the Champions League winners in Salzburg.

However, the 31-year-old has now given supporters a significant indication that he expects to be there.

Posting on social media, McGinn wrote: **“See you Wednesday in Salzburg.”**

Those five words could hardly have come at a better time for Unai Emery.

## John McGinn Aston Villa fitness picture becomes clearer

McGinn’s own message is not an official medical bulletin, but there is further reason for Villa supporters to be optimistic.

That would be a significant relief for Emery.

Villa are already preparing for the final without Johan Manzambi, while several World Cup players have only just returned to the group following their mandatory summer break.

Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Emiliano Martínez are among those whose lack of pre-season minutes creates another difficult decision for the Villa boss.

Having McGinn available would at least provide some continuity.

The Scotland international remains one of Emery’s most trusted players and his experience could be particularly important after the summer changes to Villa’s midfield.

Youri Tielemans has departed for Manchester United, while Amadou Onana’s injury has further reduced Emery’s established options.

Wednesday will represent another historic night for the club.

Europa League winners Villa face European champions PSG for the Super Cup in Salzburg, with Emery looking to add another major trophy to his reign.

McGinn’s injury initially threatened to leave Villa without their captain.

His five-word message now suggests a very different outcome.
