Aston Villa face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night as Unai Emery’s Europa League winners attempt to add another European trophy to last season’s success.
Villa earned their place in Salzburg by beating Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final, while PSG arrive as Champions League holders.
The game takes place at Stadion Salzburg on Wednesday, 12 August, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm BST.
It will be only the third competitive meeting between Villa and PSG following their memorable Champions League quarter-final in 2025.
When and where is Aston Villa vs PSG?
The UEFA Super Cup will be played at Stadion Salzburg, home of FC Salzburg.
Kick-off is at 9pm local time and 8pm in the UK on Wednesday.
The stadium has a capacity of just over 30,000 and hosted three matches during Euro 2008, but this will be the first showcase UEFA club final staged at the venue.
Villa will also wear their new 2026/27 third kit, while PSG are expected to play in their traditional home colours.
What happens if Aston Villa vs PSG is level?
There will be no extra time if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
UEFA has confirmed the match will instead go directly to a penalty shoot-out, as happened when PSG defeated Tottenham in last season’s Super Cup.
The officials have also been confirmed, with Somali referee Omar Artan taking charge. Liban Ahmed and Stephen Yiembe will operate as his assistants, while Marco Di Bello will oversee VAR.
Villa know the scale of the challenge facing them.
ReadAstonVilla reported earlier today that Matty Cash has described PSG as “the best team in the world by a mile”, although the defender also believes Villa’s previous meetings with the French side prove they can make Wednesday uncomfortable.
Aston Villa looking for second Super Cup
This will be Villa’s second appearance in the competition.
Their first came following the club’s European Cup triumph in 1982, when Villa defeated Barcelona over two legs to add the Super Cup to their collection.
PSG are also chasing their second title after recovering from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Tottenham last year before winning on penalties.
Victory would therefore put either club among the teams to have lifted the trophy more than once.
Emery has more personal history with the competition. The Villa manager has previously appeared in three Super Cups without winning one, including against Luis Enrique’s Barcelona while in charge of Sevilla in 2015.
Wednesday provides another opportunity to change that record.
Villa have already ended one long wait for European silverware under Emery. A victory over the Champions League holders would give them another trophy before the new Premier League season has even begun.
