# Bayern slam door on Aston Villa after fresh Kim Min-jae move

**Aston Villa have made a fresh move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, but their hopes of landing the South Korea international have suffered a major setback.**

Villa have reportedly been tracking Kim for several weeks and made another approach to the defender’s representatives after facing Bayern in Hong Kong earlier this month.

However, Bayern are now reluctant to sanction his departure, while Kim is also understood to favour remaining in Munich.

## Kim Min-jae Aston Villa move hits major obstacle

Reports in Germany say Villa first made informal enquiries about Kim during the World Cup before returning to his representatives last week.

The 29-year-old has also attracted interest from Nottingham Forest, but Bayern’s stance has changed and Vincent Kompany is understood to value the defender as part of his squad.

Villa are already attempting to negotiate another deal with Bayern.

ReadAstonVilla reported earlier on Thursday that [Bayern rejected Aston Villa’s opening offer for João Palhinha despite the midfielder agreeing personal terms](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/13/bayern-reject-aston-villa-bid-for-joao-palhinha-despite-personal-terms-agreement/). The German club want a permanent Palhinha sale rather than Villa’s proposed loan with an option to buy.

Kim would have represented another experienced addition for Unai Emery as uncertainty continues around Ezri Konsa’s future.

However, the latest information suggests Villa will have considerable difficulty convincing either Bayern or the defender to change course.

South Korean outlet [Chosun Biz reports that Kim has shown no intention of leaving Bayern despite Premier League interest](https://biz.chosun.com/en/en-sports/2026/08/13/2MVT2WH47ZFQFGH27OGCYDDONI/), leaving Villa facing an uphill battle if they decide to pursue the deal further.

For now, Villa’s approach appears to have uncovered another potential defensive target, but one whose availability has quickly become far more complicated.
