# Borussia Monchengladbach vs Aston Villa: How to watch, kick-off time and team news

**Aston Villa complete their pre-season programme against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday as Unai Emery’s side make their final preparations for the new Premier League campaign.**

Villa travel to Borussia-Park only three days after pushing Paris Saint-Germain close in a 2-1 UEFA Super Cup defeat in Salzburg.

Saturday therefore gives Emery one final opportunity to assess his squad before the competitive domestic season begins.

## Latest Aston Villa team news

Emery’s selection will be worth watching closely after several major players missed the Super Cup.

Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins were all absent against PSG after being given additional recovery time following their World Cup involvement. Villa have not yet confirmed whether any of the trio will return against Gladbach.

Young striker Brian Madjo could also receive further minutes after his remarkable performance in Salzburg.

The 17-year-old became the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history after scoring Villa’s equaliser against PSG, with ReadAstonVilla looking at [three major lessons from the narrow defeat](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/12/three-things-aston-villa-learned-from-psg-heartbreak-as-madjo-sends-huge-message/).

Saturday’s friendly should also offer Emery another opportunity to assess new combinations before attention turns fully towards Brighton.

With transfer business still developing and several players working their way back towards full fitness, Villa’s final pre-season XI could provide an important clue about Emery’s plans for the opening weekend.
