# Aston Villa handed fresh Brighton problem as 41-goal striker arrives

**Aston Villa have been handed another factor to consider ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener after Brighton & Hove Albion completed the signing of striker Promise David.**

The Seagulls confirmed late on Tuesday that the Canada international has joined from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan.

An obligation to buy is also included should certain conditions be met.

David arrives on the south coast having scored an impressive **41 goals in 82 appearances** for the Belgian club.

## Brighton strengthen before Aston Villa opener

The timing immediately makes the transfer relevant to Unai Emery and Villa.

Brighton host Villa at the Amex Stadium at **2pm BST on Sunday**, giving Fabian Hürzeler only a matter of days to integrate his latest attacking addition.

[Brighton confirmed David’s arrival on Tuesday evening](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/media-article/mft-transfer-news-promise-david-royale-union-saint-gilloise-august-2026), describing the 25-year-old as an out-and-out striker with significant physical qualities.

David scored 24 goals during Union Saint-Gilloise’s Belgian title-winning campaign after moving to the club in 2024.

He also represented Canada at this summer’s World Cup and scored during the tournament.

His arrival could help Brighton address one of their biggest questions heading into the new campaign following Danny Welbeck’s departure to Chelsea.

Villa may still have reason to welcome the timing of Sunday’s fixture.

Hürzeler therefore has a European trip and a new striker to manage before Villa arrive at the Amex.

Whether David is immediately involved remains to be seen, with his transfer still subject to the necessary regulatory processes.

But Brighton have strengthened their attack only days before Emery’s side begin their Premier League campaign.
