# Aston Villa weigh £30m Joel Ordonez transfer despite injury

**Aston Villa face a significant decision over a Joel Ordonez transfer after Club Brugge’s £30million asking price and the defender’s ongoing injury emerged. The Ecuador international is recovering from a fractured metatarsal, raising questions about whether he could immediately replace Ezri Konsa.**

Villa [approached Club Brugge over Ordóñez](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/23/aston-villa-make-joel-ordonez-approach-after-55m-konsa-exit/) after Konsa completed his move to Arsenal.

However, fresh details suggest completing a deal would require a sizeable investment in a player who remains unavailable.

## Joel Ordonez transfer could cost Aston Villa £30m

[Belgian outlet Voetbal24](https://voetbal24.be/transfers/club-brugge-onderhandelt-al-over-nieuwe-megatransfer) reports that Club Brugge are seeking approximately €35m, equivalent to around £30m.

Transfer journalist [Nicolò Schira](https://x.com/NicoSchira/status/2091632535390339306) has also reported that Villa are holding discussions over a deal in the 35m-40m range and could offer Ordóñez a contract running until 2031.

That would represent a long-term investment in the 22-year-old, although no agreement has been reached.

Belgian journalist [Sacha Tavolieri](https://x.com/sachatavolieri/status/2091485492491481489) reports Villa have not submitted a formal offer, underlining that talks have yet to develop into an agreed transfer.

Club Brugge are under no immediate pressure to sell after confirming Ordóñez signed a contract until 2029 last year.

## Injury raises immediate question before Arsenal

Ordóñez is recovering from a fractured metatarsal sustained during the summer.

[Transfermarkt’s injury records](https://www.transfermarkt.com/joel-ordonez/verletzungen/spieler/893661) list the centre-back as sidelined since July, with no confirmed return date.

That creates a practical complication for [Unai Emery](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/unai-emery/), whose reshaped defence conceded four goals inside 31 minutes against Brighton.

Villa face Arsenal at Villa Park on Monday, 31 August, and [already have several injury and suspension concerns](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/23/aston-villa-injury-news-emery-gives-three-updates-before-arsenal/).

Even if negotiations progress quickly, Ordóñez might not provide the immediate defensive reinforcement Emery requires.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis remains another option, although [Southampton have rejected a second Villa offer and are seeking around £30m](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/24/aston-villa-suffer-second-harwood-bellis-rejection-as-30m-demand-emerges/).

The comparable valuations leave Villa weighing whether to pursue an available Premier League defender or invest in an injured Ecuador international with considerable long-term potential.
