# Aston Villa handed Coventry City trip in Carabao Cup draw

**Aston Villa will travel to face [Coventry City](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/coventry-city/) in the third round of the Carabao Cup after discovering their first opponents in this season’s competition. [Unai Emery](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/unai-emery/)’s side were handed an away tie during Wednesday night’s draw as Villa prepare to compete across four competitions this season.**

Villa entered the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage because of their involvement in the Champions League.

As we explained in our [Carabao Cup draw guide earlier on Wednesday](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/08/26/aston-villa-carabao-cup-draw-time-and-how-to-watch/), Villa were among the European clubs protected from facing one another because of fixture congestion.

They have now been paired with Coventry.

## Aston Villa handed Coventry Carabao Cup trip

[Aston Villa officially confirmed](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2026/august/26/news-carabao-cup-round-three-draw/) that Emery’s side will travel to Coventry for the tie.

The exact date and kick-off time have yet to be announced.

Third-round fixtures will be spread across the weeks beginning **7 September and 14 September** because of the European schedule.

It gives Villa another away assignment during a busy opening period of the campaign.

Coventry have already faced elite opposition this season, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in their opening [Premier League](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/premier-league/) fixture.

Villa will hope to go further in the Carabao Cup while also balancing their Premier League and Champions League commitments.

Full fixture and ticket information will follow once the date is confirmed.
