# Roberto De Zerbi backs Tottenham turnaround before Aston Villa visit

Roberto De Zerbi believes Tottenham will recover from their difficult start as Aston Villa prepare to visit on Saturday.

Spurs lost 3-1 at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. They are also waiting for their first Premier League victory after collecting two points from four matches.

However, De Zerbi defended his players’ response at Anfield and backed them to turn performances into results.

Speaking to [Tottenham’s official website](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/1090218/liverpool-3-1-spurs-carabao-cup-roberto-de-zerbis-verdict), he said: “I think we are going to win many games and score many goals.”

## Roberto De Zerbi sees encouragement despite cup exit

Tottenham’s account of the Liverpool match recorded 17 attempts from the visitors against the hosts’ 12.

That total does not establish which team deserved to win. It does show why Villa should look beyond the result when assessing Saturday’s opponents.

De Zerbi acknowledged the frustration surrounding Tottenham’s results but praised his side’s mentality and persistence.

His team now have an immediate opportunity to respond against Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

## Villa arrive after contrasting cup result

Unai Emery’s side enjoyed a better outcome in their [3-1 victory at Coventry City](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/09/16/coventry-vs-aston-villa-carabao-cup-report/), with Tammy Abraham scoring twice.

Ross Barkley also found the net as Villa advanced to the fourth round.

The challenge now is carrying that result into the Premier League. Tottenham’s poor start offers an opportunity, but De Zerbi’s confidence underlines that Villa will face opponents determined to change their own position.

Emery also has a fitness question following [Marco Bizot’s withdrawal with a back problem](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/09/17/marco-bizot-injury-aston-villa-coventry/) at Coventry.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 12:30 BST. Supporters can find broadcast details in our [Aston Villa TV guide](https://readastonvilla.com/aston-villa-on-tv/).
