John McGinn believes Aston Villa’s new signings are beginning to understand Unai Emery’s demands after Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 victory at Tottenham.
Villa secured their first Premier League win of the season through goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emiliano Buendía.
The result came after a difficult summer rebuild and an opening four league games which produced only one point.
McGinn sees Villa progress
Speaking to TNT Sports after the Tottenham victory, McGinn admitted integrating so many new players has required patience.
“The new players are buying into it; it takes time,” the Villa captain said.
McGinn also described the victory as a major relief after Villa entered the weekend near the bottom of the table.
Reuters highlighted how Villa’s improved cohesion was finally rewarded after a turbulent summer of squad changes.
That progress was visible in several of the newer arrivals.
Manzambi scored the opener and was central to another goal, while Jackson produced arguably his best Villa performance so far.
We analysed how Manzambi has created a fresh selection decision for Emery, while the manager also praised Jackson’s breakthrough display against Spurs.
One victory does not solve Villa’s difficult start.
But McGinn believes the squad is finally beginning to move in the direction Emery demands.
