# Aston Villa boss Emery sets ‘same mentality’ demand for Sevilla

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has called on his players to maintain their improving form against Sevilla as he prepares for the Premier League restart.

Villa won three of their final four matches before the international break and complete their Spanish training camp with Friday’s friendly.

Speaking to [VillaTV](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2026/october/01/interview-we-want-to-keep-our-good-form/), Emery explained that his side wanted to preserve their rhythm, saying: “we want to keep our good form we had before the break”.

## Unai Emery sets Aston Villa target before Brentford

Emery praised the squad’s response during their work in Birmingham and Spain, with preparations already focused on Brentford and the Champions League.

Villa return to competitive action on 10 October, when Brentford visit Villa Park to begin a [run of nine matches across 30 days](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/09/24/aston-villa-fixture-run-nine-games-30-days/).

That schedule leaves little room to rebuild momentum once the fixtures restart. Friday gives the players involved another opportunity to put their training work into practice.

The occasion also carries personal significance for Emery, whose three successive Europa League triumphs with Sevilla prompted a [glowing tribute from the Spanish media](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/10/01/unai-emery-sevilla-return-spanish-media-king/) ahead of his return.

Villa have eight days between Friday’s friendly and Brentford’s visit, leaving Emery time to assess the players involved before deciding on his next Premier League side.

Kick-off at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán is 7.30pm BST.
