# Aston Villa Suffer 3-0 Defeat to Bournemouth to Exit Carabao Cup

Aston Villa were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth in a disappointing exit from the Carabao Cup in the fourth round at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.

Unai Emery making nine changes to his squad after a brilliant Premier League victory over Manchester City at the weekend. His reformed side could not stop a rampant Bournemouth side who have now won their last five games in all competitions.

Amine Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez scored for the hosts, who reached the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

## **Adli Gives Bournemouth an Early Lead**

Villa started poorly as they fell behind inside the first seven minutes. A cross into the penalty area from Julio Soler was met by Adli, who controlled before slotting home.

The opener put Villa under pressure right at the beginning of the game with Bournemouth looking to build on their recent wins against AC Milan and Manchester United.

Ben Gannon-Doak forced goalkeeper Marco Bizot to dive to his near post.

Villa were improving but struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. George Hemmings hit wide from inside the box. Summer signing Brian Madjo could not find much to work with in his second start of the season.

Leon Goretzka missed a great chance to pull Villa level just before the break. He was unable to head his free kick into the net.

## **Bizot Error Compounds Villa’s Problems**

Villa needed a strong start to the second half, but Bournemouth struck again just six minutes after the restart.

Bizot initially denied Juanlu Sanchez, tipping his effort onto the crossbar. However, the goalkeeper then made a costly error from the resulting corner.

Cook exchanged passes with Gannon-Doak before sending a delivery towards the near post. Bizot failed to deal with the ball, which crept into the net to give Bournemouth a two-goal cushion.

Despite Emery’s side creating chances to get back into the game, Villa were left with an uphill task.

Bournemouth continued to pose a threat and both sides played in an exciting game with 36 shots in total.

## **Rodriguez Seals Villa’s Exit**

Bournemouth ended any remaining hopes of a Villa comeback in the 69th minute.

Tyler Adams supplied the assist as Rodriguez drilled a low finish into the net to make it 3-0. The summer signing’s goal was his first in English domestic football.

Villa could not find a response, suffering their first defeat in eight matches and missing out on a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Speaking after the match, Emery admitted his side lacked the intensity required during the opening 20 minutes and failed to take their chances.

He said Villa had created opportunities to score but were not clinical enough, adding that Bournemouth’s third goal effectively finished the contest.

Despite the defeat, Emery insisted his players had followed their intended approach and would now turn their attention to their next challenge.

For Villa, the result highlighted the risks of making wholesale changes against an opponent enjoying a strong run of form. Bournemouth, meanwhile, will travel to Liverpool in the quarter-finals during the week commencing 14 December.
